Miracle with a Baby in a Stroller

A six-month-old baby had a miraculous escape after his stroller rolled off a railway station platform and into the path of an incoming train
The incident, which happened at Ashburton railway station in Melbourne, Australia, was captured by CCTV. The footage shows the baby's mother momentarily letting go of the stroller, which then rolls over the edge of the platform. Second later, a train pulls in to the station. The stroller and baby were dragged 30 meters (33 yards) further up the track before the train came to a halt. John Rees, a spokesman for train operator Connex, told Australia's Channel 7 television station: "It's a miracle this baby wasn't killed. The baby managed to escape with just a cut to the forehead. It's a complete miracle." The baby boy was quickly reunited with his distraught mother. He was taken to Melbourne's Royal Children's Hospital but was later discharged.

It is a very dramatic story with a very happy ending!
Accidents happen to kids under parents supervision, is it a warning to other parents to pay closer attention to our children and their safety???

Babies Safety in a Car Seat or Carrier, which is a part of a Travel System

Yesterday's news announced, that more injuries are coming from car seats outside of cars then inside of them, while driving with kids.
It brought a reflection to me, because when we talk about car seat safety, the first things that come to our heads - are car accidents. That's why when shopping for a car seat alone or car seat as a part of a travel system, we usually read before the purchase about safety features, appropriate way to install it in the car. We want our kids to be safe in the car while driving with them.
How many parents pay attention to kid's safety while car seat or carrier is out of our car??
After hearing yesterday's news I'm surprised, that more then half injuries happen to kids in car seats, while those car seats are out of cars. They are not related to car accidents!
So shouldn't we think about our children safety while putting them snapped into car seats on tables? counter taps? couches? That's what make our kids not safe, that's what put them in danger of possible injuries, when they fall.
So parents, be careful when looking for the best accessories for your babies, while shopping for car seats or travel systems, which include car seats. Make sure your children are safe in car seats while driving and also find appropriate spot to leave your baby snapped into the car seat, in the house, while shopping with them, because some ideas may put your child in danger of falling and get injured.

What Kind of Baby Stroller to buy for Babies younger then 6 months

Newborns can't sit up without support, their main activity is lying. They need appropriate stroller to ride in when taken for walks. They need a fully reclined kind of baby stroller, so they can be comfortable. Their physical needs need to be met.
It's not easy to pick appropriate stroller when we have to consider our infant's safety and comfort, and our needs.
Today's baby stroller market offers a few options for newborns:
- car seat carrier frames, snapngo models
- travel system
- combo stroller
- carriage or pram.
These are main choices for infants up to 6 months of age.
Some of them are more or less practical, convenient, or lasting for longer. Usually price range is a factor too. For example prams are very expensive, in fact they don't last for long, babies grow out of them very quickly.
Parents, that I know prefer travel systems or snapngo for their stroller needs. The travel system last for long time, it will grow with your baby. When baby is older you can use the stroller, which will last trough toddlers years.

Travel System For Everyday Use

Traveling with your kids and taking them places can be very challenging, so it is important to have appropriate accessories to make it easier on you and your children.
A travel system typically consists of a stroller, a seat, and the base, that stays in the car. The seat snaps into the stroller and the base, making transitions especially easy. The stroller with the seat attached can be heavy, but the convenience may be worth the extra pounds.
These models accommodate babies from birth to 20 lbs. Although an infant seat won’t work for as much of your child’s life as a convertible seat, it will take him or her more places. It will be more useful until the baby reaches 20 lbs. Infant seats can be used also as carriers. All the seats on today’s market tested and rated at least very good.
Infant Seats Features:
- can be bought with a stroller,
- separate base that can be left strapped in the car,
- leveling indicator to help install the seat at a safe angle that’s comfortable for the infant,
- adjustable three-point harness,
- attachment to use with a shopping cart,
- weigh 6-8 lbs.
Strollers Features:
-
backrest that reclines to a near horizontal, flat position,
- fabric can be cleaned by damp-wiping,
- swivel wheels that don’t lock,
- shock-absorption at frame and wheels,
- padding for the child,
- canopy that locks when positioned,
- have rear-wheel brakes,
- use T-buckle restrains with strap at the crotch and waist.
You won’t go far wrong with any of these travel systems. All were judged at least as good as strollers. The top models are manufactured by Graco and Evenflo. They earned the highest scores in convenience, durability, and safety.
Convenience of functions was judged according to ease of opening and folding, inserting and removing the car seat, operating the brakes, steering, and using buckles.
Durability reveals how well each stroller handled loads of 100 pounds on the seat and 10 pounds on the foot rests, as well as repetitive opening and folding and an endurance track test on bumpy sidewalks or rough road surfaces.
The safety scores indicate areas where the standards are inadequate- protecting an infant sleeping in the stroller or the instability when force is applied to the handle.
The baby rides in the car seat snapped into the stroller until she can sit up, and then you use the stroller without the car seat.
Like an infant seat with carrier frame, a travel system allows you to move a sleeping baby in the seat undisturbed from car to stroller. This is very important for today's, busy parents, who need to take their babies places or travel with them.

Comments on Travel Systems

My friend lately asked me what kind of baby stroller would be the best for her newborn.
She didn't want to get stroller as a gift, she wanted make that decision on her own, because it is so important accessory for a child. Every baby needs a baby stroller, one or more, and will use it for a few years. My friend's main question was, if she should buy a travel system or separate a baby stroller and an infant car seat?
A travel system typically consists of a stroller, a seat, and a base that stays in the car. The seat snaps into the stroller and the base, making transitions especially easy. The stroller with the seat attached can be heavy, but the convenience may be worth the extra pounds.
It is important, especially for the newborn, who sleeps or naps a lot, not to disturb while making changes from car to the stroller. Usually child wakes up when parent picks him up to make those transitions, unless is laying comfortably in his seat, may not even notice the change.
Another good thing about travel system is that the infant car seat may be used as a carrier. It is important for busy parents, who need to take their babies from place to place.
I would consider travel system for my needs, I think those models are great, very useful, and so convenient. I look over the latest tests performed on travel systems, ratings, and recommendations - they look very good. Their safety, durability, and convenience are rated very good and very comparable to separate pieces.
I wonder, what you think about that choice?

CR tests prompt recall of Baby Jogger stroller

CR tests prompt recall of Baby Jogger stroller
Baby-Jogger As anticipated, Baby Jogger has recalled 41,000 of its City Mini strollers after testing by Consumer Reports showed that the stroller's harness buckle released too easily.

We reported in July that during our recent tests of 19 strollers, we found that the Baby Jogger City Mini Single had a harness buckle that released when the harness straps were pulled by forces as weak as two pounds. That's considerably less than the pulling force of a typical-sized child. We reported then that the company was discussing a recall with the Consumer Product Safety Commission and also that, independent of our test findings, Baby Jogger had recently redesigned the buckle after getting about 100 consumer complaints that the buckles had broken.

The recall includes both Baby Jogger City Mini single and double strollers manufactured between Nov.1, 2007 and Feb. 28, 2009. They were sold at juvenile product stores, mass merchandisers, and department stores nationwide and on various Web sites including Amazon.com from November 2007 through July 2009 for between $220 and $400. (Check the recall notice for item numbers.)

I think, this information may be helpful for people, that own that kind of jogging stroller. That's why I share it with you.
