Recalls on Strollers, Baby cribs, and more...

The CPSC recently held a unanimous vote for new rules that will require hefty regulations for baby product manufactures. The regulations will require all manufacturers to keep track of product owners. Manufactures will be required to provide consumers with a postage-page registration form. Once the consumer fills out and returns the form, the manufacturer must keep their information on file.

The CPSC hopes this will help consumers find out about recalls faster. Recalls that may be life threatening to their infant or toddler.

Three major recalls were in issued in 2009 after serious injuries occurred in infants and toddlers. The CPSC issued a recall for nearly 500,000 infant car seats after a defective handle was found to put children at serious risk for injury during car accidents. Another recall involving cribs was issued after the defective product caused injuries and bruising to infants and toddlers. The third recall was issued after several children suffered finger amputations. In that recall over two millions strollers were affected.

Hopefully the new regulations imposed by the CPSC will help parents keep their children safe from dangerous and defective products.

Maclaren didn't Recall thier Strollers in Japan

On Nov. 11, Maclaren, a British maker of baby strollers, learned this the hard way. It had recalled some of its strollers in the United States but not in Japan. This prompted Mizuho Fukushima, minister in charge of consumer affairs, to make a public call to refrain from using these strollers altogether.

This call was delivered with the full punch of a press club that was briefed on the topic exclusively by the agency but without any input from the company.

Baby, Stroller + Cell phone, I Pod...= Quality Time Spend with Your Child?

I got some reflection about babies, parents and a quality of the time they spend together.
I see lots of parents pushing strollers with their babies and talking on cell-phones, texting or listening to music on I Pods... My reflection made me ask the question: are technical gadgets driving us from spending quality time with our kids?
Giving attention to children and spending time with them is very important to both, you and your kids. There are many benefits coming from the quality time that we spend with our children, regardless from their ages. Kids need our attention always, when they are infants, toddlers, at school age, and after that...
Sometimes we forget about this. We take our babies for walk in strollers but somebody calls us so we answer the cell-phone and talk for a a few minutes or while strolling we listen to music coming from our I Pod, or texting... instead of entertaining our kids, talking to them, and answering their questions. Children always have many questions to us but do we have time to answer them?
I think we parents should leave our gadgets at home when strolling with kids or not use them. Spending quality time with children will benefit in their development, mental and emotional. It will also benefit us in many ways.

I wonder what do you think about the topic? please leave your comments.
Our child psychologist at www.strollernstuff.com can help you with any questions regarding the topic. Please feel free to contact us.

You have ONLY 30-35 seconds to fold a baby stroller to get on train

Did you hear the story...
"A mother has serious questions for Regional Transit after a light rail train took off with her 1-year-old daughter on board. Brittney Robinson said she was having trouble getting her stroller folded up and onto the train at a Sacramento station, so she told the driver to wait. Robinson said another passenger helped her by holding the baby while she got the stroller folded and stowed. However, she said, the train left anyway...
The mother said she believes the driver left without her on purpose. She said she was crying and "hysterical" when a transit guard came to her assistance. "He shouldn't have been as rude as he was to me," Robinson said. Regional Transit spokeswoman Alane Masui said the train operator reported a child was separated from the mother after the train departed from the Power Inn Station. Masui said a transit guard went with the mother on the next train that was headed to the University/65th Street station. According to Robinson, the driver drove the train past that station -- where the woman holding the baby was waiting -- and the RT dispatcher made the driver go back so the mother and child could be reunited. The mother and child were separated for about 10 minutes, Masui said. "I felt like I had been away from my daughter forever," Robinson said. The train operator would not intentionally separate a mother and a child, Masui said, and wasn't aware of the situation until after the train pulled out. RT said there are signs at stations asking parents to fold up strollers before boarding. Loading time for trains is about 30 to 35 seconds, Masui said."

So parents fold your baby stroller quick because the train won't wait for you!

Baby Planners

Between 60 and 70 baby planners have started offering services in the United States in the last few years. Baby planners offer researched recommendations on baby products, like strollers, baby bassinets, and cribs, and make referrals to and do interviews with possible nannies and midwives.
Many clients are busy professional women or pregnant women who live far away from their families. Baby planners charge rates from around $50 to $150 an hour or by packages, which can cost several hundred to several thousand dollars.

But there also can be opposite pressure from the longtime idea that parents should want to do everything for their children, said Parenting magazine senior editor Christina Vercelletto. "A lot of it has to do with the expectation that anything to do with a baby is something that a mother should want to do," she said.

Vercelletto said baby planners can alleviate stress and be useful to parents who can afford the services, but there are plenty of other good resources available, such as advice from friends and family, for parents who can't pay for any extra help.

Shoplifting Using Baby Strollers

Some people used baby strollers as a tool to shoplifting. WOULD YOU LIKE TO HEAR THE STORY?

...Four people with Las Vegas addresses were arrested Sunday in connection with the case, where a group of people are accused of going into large retail stores and filling up baby strollers with clothes and other items without paying for them.

Investigators have recovered more than $3,000 worth of stolen merchandise from Boise area retailers in connection with the case, according to reports.

Boise police officials say five members of the group were caught using baby strollers to steal clothes and other items from two large retailers at Franklin Road and Milwaukee Street on Sunday.

Boise police say all six suspects have Nevada addresses and are trying to determine if this group was visiting different cities along major highways, as in other cases Boise police have dealt with.

The charge of burglary is punishable by up to 10 years in prison, and the charge of grand theft is punishable by up to 14 years in prison...

Those baby strollers above are the tools that shoplifters used for the crime.

Will Baby Strollers be allowed on Buses in Canada

It was very important topic for all Canadians using buses for their commute and having baby strollers with them. Lots of mothers, their babies, and baby strollers were protesting in front of Ottawa City Hall on November 18 against the proposition to restrict some sizes and shapes of strollers allowed on public transportation in Canada.

Finally Authorities chose not to impose their regulations.

It is a great news for all parents!
Especially now when baby slings are not such a good option, after few infant's death reported and associated with them.
Baby carriers are good but not the best way to commute with the baby on public transportation. Still the best option is the right type of baby stroller, the best and the most convenient lightweight stroller or umbrella stroller. These models are made to be very light, easy to fold with one hand, and compact. Lightweight strollers are always favorite and they come in many designs, styles, and sizes. On the market you can find big selections of lightweight strollers often right on your budget, these models are cheap. Also many manufacturers and makers offer very wide galleries of that kind of products. From fancy Italian Peg Perego and Mia Moda, Graco, Kolcraft, to Evenflo and Britex Blink.

Jogging Strollers on Marathon Run

On November, 22, 2009 may new record be set for running with joggers in Marathon.

Tulsa's Williams Route 66 Marathon - this Sunday will take place race that involve two elite runners and their sons in jogging strollers.
Both fathers are marathon runners - Michael Wardian and Zac Freudenburg, they will run 26,2 miles while pushing their kids - 11-month old Grant and 10-month old Liam - in joggers.
They're not only trying to outrun each other, they're trying to break the current Guinness World Record for a marathon race while pushing a stroller — 2:42:21 — set by Wardian and his firstborn son, Pierce, in 2007.

The idea for this father-son adventure came from Wardian.

"Michael gave me the idea when we did the Mount Washington race a few years ago — he was expecting his second son, I was expecting my first," Freudenburg said. "He told me about running a marathon with his first son, and his son liked it, so that sort of planted the seed."

Wardian heard that Freudenburg was going to attempt to break his record and decided he and Grant were up for the challenge.

"We're pretty equally matched," Wardian said. "I think it's going to be a great race, especially if the kids cooperate."

Both men are accomplished distance runners — Wardian recently placed third at the World Championship 50k and Freudenburg won the St. Louis Marathon in April — and they're focused on breaking that Guinness World Record this Sunday. Minus any snack, diaper or crying baby breaks.

Great idea with many benefits for fathers and their children, jogging strollers are getting more and more popular, parents promote active and healthy lifestyle. They can be used even in marathons and for more recreational purposes.
If you are interested in jogging or running with your child or siblings, visit our website for some info, tips, and resources at www.strollernstuff.com we also offer a wide selection of joggers, single and double jogging strollers.

Graco Quattro Duo Tour Stroller- one of the best choices for Twins or Siblings

One of the hardest things when having multiples is trying to find a safe and efficient way to get them from one place to another. We care about their safety, comfort, and also about our budget.

One of the best products is the Graco Duo Quattro by Graco. This stroller packs a lot of punch with beautiful designs, the ability to grow with children, and the capacity for two infant car seat carriers (that need to be Graco brand as well).

This stroller has a large basket under the seats, cup holders for parents and children, large shades that are detachable, ergonomic handles that make it easier to steer and even control with one hand, and it comes in a couple lovely fabric designs.

The grace this stroller provides in its smooth ride is incomparable and its only draw back is its pure mass. Though the stroller folds with a simple twist of one hand, it is still a large item to place into the trunk of a vehicle.

A family sacrifices a good amount of space in carting around this stroller. Double strollers in general are large items and few fold up really small. The ones that tend to fold up the smallest are not equip to carry infant car seats.

Graco Quattro Duo is the model with all necessary features that babies and parents need. Prices are very reasonable to compare with other double stroller brands, and Graco is the manufacturer that you can trust. Usually Graco strollers, single and double are very highly rated for safety and durability by Consumer Reports.

Toronto Residents Advised to Lock up Baby Strollers

Lately I read article about baby stroller thefts in Toronto, Canada, I would like to share with you.

Bloor West Village have experienced a rash of baby stroller thefts over the past 10 months.Police say there have been six reported thefts since January. The strollers are being snatched off front porches. A man and a woman were arrested and charged in two of the cases earlier this year, which resulted in the strollers being sold online. However, their names have not been released because the investigation is ongoing.

"Don't take a chance," said Vella. "Don't leave anything valuable on verandas."Police suggest that strollers be secured or stored out of sight. When purchasing a stroller, officers recommend recording the make, model and serial number.Police believe thieves may be targeting baby strollers after a recent spike in thefts, especially in Toronto's west end. Since January, half a dozen strollers have been stolen in Toronto police 11 Division alone, which includes parts of Parkdale, High Park-Swansea and Runnymede-Bloor West Village.

Police are urging owners to secure or store strollers out of sight, as they are taken from house porches in most cases."We want to make people aware that this is in fact happening. Especially with colder snowy weather coming, you're less likely to properly store strollers," said Const. Wendy Drummond, adding that it is the more expensive makes being targeted.Of the six strollers stolen in 11 Division, a man and woman were charged earlier this year with attempting to sell two of the products online. Two other strollers were located by citizens and returned to their owners.

Police continue to investigate the thefts.

I think it is an interesting article, we can learn from it and protect our baby strollers from potential thief.
Remember, that baby strollers don't have lo-jacks! even those expensive ones.

Miracle with a Baby in a Stroller

A six-month-old baby had a miraculous escape after his stroller rolled off a railway station platform and into the path of an incoming train
The incident, which happened at Ashburton railway station in Melbourne, Australia, was captured by CCTV. The footage shows the baby's mother momentarily letting go of the stroller, which then rolls over the edge of the platform. Second later, a train pulls in to the station. The stroller and baby were dragged 30 meters (33 yards) further up the track before the train came to a halt. John Rees, a spokesman for train operator Connex, told Australia's Channel 7 television station: "It's a miracle this baby wasn't killed. The baby managed to escape with just a cut to the forehead. It's a complete miracle." The baby boy was quickly reunited with his distraught mother. He was taken to Melbourne's Royal Children's Hospital but was later discharged.

It is a very dramatic story with a very happy ending!
Accidents happen to kids under parents supervision, is it a warning to other parents to pay closer attention to our children and their safety???

Babies Safety in a Car Seat or Carrier, which is a part of a Travel System

Yesterday's news announced, that more injuries are coming from car seats outside of cars then inside of them, while driving with kids.
It brought a reflection to me, because when we talk about car seat safety, the first things that come to our heads - are car accidents. That's why when shopping for a car seat alone or car seat as a part of a travel system, we usually read before the purchase about safety features, appropriate way to install it in the car. We want our kids to be safe in the car while driving with them.
How many parents pay attention to kid's safety while car seat or carrier is out of our car??
After hearing yesterday's news I'm surprised, that more then half injuries happen to kids in car seats, while those car seats are out of cars. They are not related to car accidents!
So shouldn't we think about our children safety while putting them snapped into car seats on tables? counter taps? couches? That's what make our kids not safe, that's what put them in danger of possible injuries, when they fall.
So parents, be careful when looking for the best accessories for your babies, while shopping for car seats or travel systems, which include car seats. Make sure your children are safe in car seats while driving and also find appropriate spot to leave your baby snapped into the car seat, in the house, while shopping with them, because some ideas may put your child in danger of falling and get injured.

What Kind of Baby Stroller to buy for Babies younger then 6 months

Newborns can't sit up without support, their main activity is lying. They need appropriate stroller to ride in when taken for walks. They need a fully reclined kind of baby stroller, so they can be comfortable. Their physical needs need to be met.
It's not easy to pick appropriate stroller when we have to consider our infant's safety and comfort, and our needs.
Today's baby stroller market offers a few options for newborns:
- car seat carrier frames, snapngo models
- travel system
- combo stroller
- carriage or pram.
These are main choices for infants up to 6 months of age.
Some of them are more or less practical, convenient, or lasting for longer. Usually price range is a factor too. For example prams are very expensive, in fact they don't last for long, babies grow out of them very quickly.
Parents, that I know prefer travel systems or snapngo for their stroller needs. The travel system last for long time, it will grow with your baby. When baby is older you can use the stroller, which will last trough toddlers years.

Please share your opinion with us.

Travel System For Everyday Use

Traveling with your kids and taking them places can be very challenging, so it is important to have appropriate accessories to make it easier on you and your children.
A travel system typically consists of a stroller, a seat, and the base, that stays in the car. The seat snaps into the stroller and the base, making transitions especially easy. The stroller with the seat attached can be heavy, but the convenience may be worth the extra pounds.
These models accommodate babies from birth to 20 lbs. Although an infant seat won’t work for as much of your child’s life as a convertible seat, it will take him or her more places. It will be more useful until the baby reaches 20 lbs. Infant seats can be used also as carriers. All the seats on today’s market tested and rated at least very good.
Infant Seats Features:
- can be bought with a stroller,
- separate base that can be left strapped in the car,
- leveling indicator to help install the seat at a safe angle that’s comfortable for the infant,
- adjustable three-point harness,
- attachment to use with a shopping cart,
- weigh 6-8 lbs.
Strollers Features:
-
backrest that reclines to a near horizontal, flat position,
- fabric can be cleaned by damp-wiping,
- swivel wheels that don’t lock,
- shock-absorption at frame and wheels,
- padding for the child,
- canopy that locks when positioned,
- have rear-wheel brakes,
- use T-buckle restrains with strap at the crotch and waist.
You won’t go far wrong with any of these travel systems. All were judged at least as good as strollers. The top models are manufactured by Graco and Evenflo. They earned the highest scores in convenience, durability, and safety.
Convenience of functions was judged according to ease of opening and folding, inserting and removing the car seat, operating the brakes, steering, and using buckles.
Durability reveals how well each stroller handled loads of 100 pounds on the seat and 10 pounds on the foot rests, as well as repetitive opening and folding and an endurance track test on bumpy sidewalks or rough road surfaces.
The safety scores indicate areas where the standards are inadequate- protecting an infant sleeping in the stroller or the instability when force is applied to the handle.
The baby rides in the car seat snapped into the stroller until she can sit up, and then you use the stroller without the car seat.
Like an infant seat with carrier frame, a travel system allows you to move a sleeping baby in the seat undisturbed from car to stroller. This is very important for today's, busy parents, who need to take their babies places or travel with them.

Comments on Travel Systems

My friend lately asked me what kind of baby stroller would be the best for her newborn.
She didn't want to get stroller as a gift, she wanted make that decision on her own, because it is so important accessory for a child. Every baby needs a baby stroller, one or more, and will use it for a few years. My friend's main question was, if she should buy a travel system or separate a baby stroller and an infant car seat?
A travel system typically consists of a stroller, a seat, and a base that stays in the car. The seat snaps into the stroller and the base, making transitions especially easy. The stroller with the seat attached can be heavy, but the convenience may be worth the extra pounds.
It is important, especially for the newborn, who sleeps or naps a lot, not to disturb while making changes from car to the stroller. Usually child wakes up when parent picks him up to make those transitions, unless is laying comfortably in his seat, may not even notice the change.
Another good thing about travel system is that the infant car seat may be used as a carrier. It is important for busy parents, who need to take their babies from place to place.
I would consider travel system for my needs, I think those models are great, very useful, and so convenient. I look over the latest tests performed on travel systems, ratings, and recommendations - they look very good. Their safety, durability, and convenience are rated very good and very comparable to separate pieces.
I wonder, what you think about that choice?
If you have any comments, please share with us.

CR tests prompt recall of Baby Jogger stroller

CR tests prompt recall of Baby Jogger stroller
Baby-Jogger As anticipated, Baby Jogger has recalled 41,000 of its City Mini strollers after testing by Consumer Reports showed that the stroller's harness buckle released too easily.

We reported in July that during our recent tests of 19 strollers, we found that the Baby Jogger City Mini Single had a harness buckle that released when the harness straps were pulled by forces as weak as two pounds. That's considerably less than the pulling force of a typical-sized child. We reported then that the company was discussing a recall with the Consumer Product Safety Commission and also that, independent of our test findings, Baby Jogger had recently redesigned the buckle after getting about 100 consumer complaints that the buckles had broken.

The recall includes both Baby Jogger City Mini single and double strollers manufactured between Nov.1, 2007 and Feb. 28, 2009. They were sold at juvenile product stores, mass merchandisers, and department stores nationwide and on various Web sites including Amazon.com from November 2007 through July 2009 for between $220 and $400. (Check the recall notice for item numbers.)

I think, this information may be helpful for people, that own that kind of jogging stroller. That's why I share it with you.

What kind of Double Stroller to choose? Side-by-side or tandem?

When you choose a perfect double stroller for your twins or siblings, there are so many things to consider:
- price to fit into your budget,
- your children age,
- features and brands,
- even siblings personalities.
There are basically three kinds of double strollers:
1. Side-by-side double stroller
2. Tandem
3. Double jogging stroller.
Side-by-side models are nice but they require as much space as the single version. These strollers are wider and sometimes may not fit through some doorways, narrow elevator doors, and store isles, everything over 29 inches wide could cause headaches.
Those models are perfect for outdoor walks, especially if you want both kids to entertain each other, while their exploration. Side-by-sides go over curbs more easily, but is good to keep balance on that kind of stroller with both kids. Only one child and uneven weighting may cause veering.
Tandem double strollers are better for just one kid at a time and are easier to maneuver, particularly with one hand. Many tandems accept an infant car seat in one or both stroller seats. These models can accommodate children of two different weights, with the heaviest in the front and the smaller one in the back. There are options also to set up the double stroller to face child to child , toward the parent, or toward the front, depending on children current needs.
Double Jogging Stroller, kind of stroller for active parents, who like to run with their babies, introducing to fitness and joys of the outdoors early on. They are suitable for babies over six months old, babies need to be able to sit upright to be safe in that kind of stroller.

Get Ready to Lose Baby Fat with Jogging Stroller and other Practical Tips for New Moms

Who wouldn't trade the post-baby body for the old pre-baby shape? - I think most of new moms
According to the American College of Obstetricians, 80% of women who give birth eacg year gain more then recommended 25-35 pounds while they're pregnant.
From psychological point of view, it is so important, that new moms feel good about themselves and their postpartum bodies. In the whole process of building a correct emotional bonding between mother and her baby, woman's self-esteem plays a significant role. It is so important for new moms to gain their strength, get back flexibility, endurance, and renewed, positive self-image.
In general, most moms should give themselves up to 4-6 weeks fallowing delivery to recover, and then they can resume exercise gradually. It is good to start exercise program at home and when baby is old enough to ride in a jogging stroller (recommended age-6 months old) you can start walking or jogging with your child. Babies need so much attention and you don't want to leave your little one with somebody else. Most babies are happy, when taken for a walk, it is a great way to entertain your kid, while spending time outdoors.
My friend joins a stroller group, she is happy about getting back to shape, and her baby is happy to spend time with mommy and have play dates with her peers. So many benefits, what can be more rewarding?
Jogging strollers come in all sizes and shapes, single or double jogging stroller, different front wheel sizes, Jogging stroller comes with fixed or lockable front wheel, and all with large, air-filled tires. I would suggest buying a helmet for your little one for extra protection.
One more benefit and very important, I would like to share with you - we know how much our kids copy what we do or say. We want TO SET A GOOD EXAMPLE AND MAKE THE BEST CHOICES FOR OUR FAMILIES. Our behavior really sends them the message that you like to be active. Not only does being active set up your kids for living a healthier lifestyle, but it also helps them adopt a good attitude about exercise for the rest of their lives.
If you use a jogging stroller for your exercises, or mom's stroller group and you want to share comments with us, please do so.

SitnStand Stroller - lots of Convenience for Parents with Siblings

Sitnstand strollers are new and very convenient products. It never was so easy to take different age siblings for a long walk without tiring the toddler.
Sitnstand stroller is very convenient for a baby and a busy preschooler, when the second one needs breaks from walking now and then.
My friend bought that kind of stroller when her second child was born and her first was 2 years old. She said, that it was the best stroller purchase she ever did. She uses sitnstand for long walks, for shopping, and traveling with kids. Sun blocking canopy, one hand fold, swivel, lockable wheels with suspension - that's only a few features, that she loves.
Sitnstand strollers are great for their value. You can also use it to snap an infant car seat on it. It is suitable for every child's age, even for infants. Sitnstad strollers are not on the stroller market for a long time, but today's parents are very lucky to have on opportunity to buy them for their siblings. I wish more manufacturers would make them, people just learn about their benefits.
Sitnstand by Baby Trend works well as a double stroller or if you remove the second seat, it can be used as a standing spot for an older sibling, the other option is to snap a baby car seat. So these are a few possibilities to set up that kind of stroller.
Mia Moda makes also nice, european sitnstands, stylish and trendy.

There are so many baby strollers on the market, everything from lightweight to heavy-duty, very simple umbrella strollers, midsized strollers, travel systems, to carriages, prams, all-terrain, and jogging strollers. So many thing to consider, like your lifestyle, the budget, your child's age, manufacturers, and more. Choosing a baby stroller is not an easy thing to do for parents, especially because baby strollers are a basic and the most used items and you need those products for newborns trough your child reaches the toddler age. Sometimes you need more then just one baby stroller, depending on your lifestyle, and also baby's needs change during her first years of life.
