Jogging Strollers on Marathon Run

On November, 22, 2009 may new record be set for running with joggers in Marathon.

Tulsa's Williams Route 66 Marathon - this Sunday will take place race that involve two elite runners and their sons in jogging strollers.
Both fathers are marathon runners - Michael Wardian and Zac Freudenburg, they will run 26,2 miles while pushing their kids - 11-month old Grant and 10-month old Liam - in joggers.
They're not only trying to outrun each other, they're trying to break the current Guinness World Record for a marathon race while pushing a stroller — 2:42:21 — set by Wardian and his firstborn son, Pierce, in 2007.

The idea for this father-son adventure came from Wardian.

"Michael gave me the idea when we did the Mount Washington race a few years ago — he was expecting his second son, I was expecting my first," Freudenburg said. "He told me about running a marathon with his first son, and his son liked it, so that sort of planted the seed."

Wardian heard that Freudenburg was going to attempt to break his record and decided he and Grant were up for the challenge.

"We're pretty equally matched," Wardian said. "I think it's going to be a great race, especially if the kids cooperate."

Both men are accomplished distance runners — Wardian recently placed third at the World Championship 50k and Freudenburg won the St. Louis Marathon in April — and they're focused on breaking that Guinness World Record this Sunday. Minus any snack, diaper or crying baby breaks.

Great idea with many benefits for fathers and their children, jogging strollers are getting more and more popular, parents promote active and healthy lifestyle. They can be used even in marathons and for more recreational purposes.
